Overview: FuelCell Energy is looking for a hands-on and talented welder to join our dynamic team. We are seeking for a hardworking professional who likes challenges. The main responsibilities will include to interpreting designs, monitoring machinery, and assessing welded components The successful candidate will also have a steady hand and outstanding attention to detail. Performs welding in 1G,2G,3G, and 6G positions. Mig and Tig Carbon steel to Carbon steel, Stainless Steel to Stainless steel, Dissimilar metals (Carbon to Stainless). Plate and Pipe. Fit up and prep. A wide variety of electronic, electro-mechanical, mechanical or measurement product assembly operations on product components, large and small assemblies, or sub-assemblies. Determines and/or follows work instructions and sequence travelers of operations in performing wiring, component installation, welding and fitting on assembly units. Makes setups and adjustments holding tolerances to blueprint specifications. Responsibilities: The Welder is responsible for:

  • Performs hands-on manufacturing tasks while meeting quantity and quality standards and requirements.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. Examine workpieces for defects and measure workpieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as Carbon Steel, stainless steel.
  • Weld separately or in combination, using aluminum, stainless steel, cast iron, and other alloys.
  • Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux, according to welding chart specifications or types and thicknesses of metals.
  • Start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits.
  • Connect and turn regulator valves to activate and adjust gas flow and pressure so that desired flames are obtained.
  • Determine required equipment and welding methods, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
  • Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
  • Mark or tag material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required.
  • Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment.
  • Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter.
  • Align and clamp workpieces together, using rules, squares, or hand tools, or position items in fixtures, jigs, or vises.
  • Develop templates and models for welding projects, using mathematical calculations based on blueprint information.
  • Guide and direct flames or electrodes on or across workpieces to straighten, bend, melt, or build up metal.
  • Position and secure workpieces, using hoists, cranes, wire, and banding machines or hand tools.
  • Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors.
  • Clean or degrease parts, using wire brushes, portable grinders, or chemical baths.
  • Grind, cut, buff, or bend edges of workpieces to be joined to ensure snug fit, using power grinders and hand tools.
  • Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using, straightening presses, and hand tools.
  • Check grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometers, calipers, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Operate metal shaping, straightening, and bending machines, such as brakes and shears.
  • Set up and use ladders and scaffolding as necessary to complete work.
  • Hammer out bulges or bends in metal workpieces.
  • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.
  • Use fire suppression methods in industrial emergencies.
  • Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and operations.
Education & Experience:
  • Minimum HS diploma / GED.
  • Technical education preferred or 2 years of experience.
Ideal candidate must have:
  • Welding experience
  • Ability to use electronically controlled equipment and hand tools
  • Experience with tooling and assembly utilizing heavy equipment
  • Experience with quality measuring tools, i.e., Calipers, micrometers, etc.
  • Experience in use of air pallets, forklifts, and overhead crane operations
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
  • Lifting, pushing, pulling and placement of manufacturing parts on a repeated basis, which may have a weight of at least 25 lbs.
  • Ability to remain on feet and move from area to area within the Plant for a minimum period of eight (8) hours, with designated breaks
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion tasks with full range of motion with both hands/arms: motions include circular, up and down, back and forth, side to side, and overhead
  • Ability to work with, and around, chemicals, including but not limited to nickel-based compounds, adhesives, and solvents
  • Be able and willing to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as designated such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hats, respirator, and other PPE as required
