Job Description
-Our services include design, design-build, construction management, environmental planning, feasibility studies, ITS, permitting, program management, right-of-way acquisition, signaling & lighting, stakeholder engagement, strategic consulting, sustainable design, traffic analysis, transportation enhancement, and utility coordination and relocation.
-The Transportation Designer will assist in various phases of planning and detailed designs, report preparation, specifications, and preparation of construction plans and environmental documentation as part of a project team. This position will work on various projects with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients.
-Assist in designing various transportation projects including roads, bridges, storm drainage systems, stormwater management facilities, water and sanitary sewer utility design, sediment and erosion control, traffic control, and airports.
-Assist with a full range of drawing production work including problem analysis, design layout and calculations on nonroutine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
-Assist with a variety of transportation assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques including drawing sequence and presentation and refining rough sketches.
-Assist with initial rough designs or sketches and mark-ups on ongoing projects.
-Assist with analyzing reports, maps, drawings, tests, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design projects.
-Interpret and apply design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
-Complete and review design drawings following project criteria within scope, budget, and schedule.
-Compute earthwork volume calculations for excavation, embankment, dredging, and upland site grading.
-Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files, and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.
-All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
-Associate or technical degree and a minimum of three to five years of experience in Transportation with an emphasis in roadway or bridge drafting.
-Understanding of design software such as MicroStation, Open Roads Designer, Inroads, and Geopak to develop design deliverables.
-Knowledge of roadway design. Creating and maintaining alignments (horizontal and vertical). Understanding of 3D modeling and template usage.
-Ability to work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers) in a multi-disciplined project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.
-Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
-Strong attention to detail, team collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
