Job Description

Job Summary:
Provide tailored learning activities and experiences for special education students based on Individualized Education Plans (IEP). Develop and adjust curriculum, prepare lessons, and create instructional materials suited to students' abilities. Collaborate within various educational settings as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements.
ESL Certification required within six months of employment.
Special Knowledge/Skills:

Understanding of specific needs of students in assigned area.
Proficiency in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and IEP goal setting.
General knowledge of curriculum development and instructional techniques.
Strong consultation and collaboration skills.
Minimum Experience:

At least one year of student teaching or approved internship.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop Individual Education Plans (IEP) through the ARD Committee process.
Implement customized instructional, therapeutic, or skill development programs.
Plan and implement appropriate instructional strategies, materials, and accommodations.
Coordinate with classroom teachers to modify curricula and assist students in inclusive settings.
Prepare for and participate in ARD Committee meetings, updating IEPs and discussing student progress.
Conduct formal and informal assessments of student learning styles.
Use assistive technologies effectively in teaching.
Assess student achievement through various testing methods.
Provide or oversee personal and medical care as outlined in IEPs.
Support extracurricular activities and act as a positive role model for students.
Foster a conducive learning environment that supports student development.
Manage student behavior according to IEP and training protocols, including crisis intervention.
Maintain communication with parents and community agencies regarding student progress and needs.
Uphold professional standards in interactions with colleagues, students, and families.
Participate in staff development programs and pursue ongoing professional development.
Adhere to federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies.
Maintain accurate records and comply with grading and homework policies.
Attend faculty meetings and serve on committees as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise assigned instructional assistants/aides and support student teachers/volunteers as needed.
Working Conditions:

Mental Demands: Effective communication and instruction, emotional management under stress.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Regular standing, bending, lifting; exposure to communicable diseases and challenging student behaviors.
Potential for remote work using personal electronic devices.
