Job Summary

The Senior Regulatory team member is focused on providing expertise on new product development initiatives, claims and label review within the care, cleanup & hard goods space.

  • Utilize familiarity with chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or similar science concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Develop expertise and provide support in a variety of areas within Regulatory: regulatory compliance with of EPA (TSCA, FIFRA), FTC, CPSC and other agencies, DOT regulations and Product Safety Labeling requirements, and other federal and state regulations and guidelines.
  • Execute regulatory functions and processes to support new and existing product development, claims substantiation and post marketing compliance.
  • Work closely with, develop and maintain positive relationships with various team members (departmental and cross-functional).

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Interact with Marketing, Manufacturing, R&D/NPD, Sourcing, and other internal customers to compile necessary information/documentation/data to complete assigned tasks and achieve company goals.
  • Develop a strong regulatory understanding to provide expertise and advise on claims, regulatory requirements, processes, and activities for the governance of Spectrum Brands products.
  • Responsible for a wide variety of Regulatory activities, including:
    • Stay abreast of, and research, when necessary, applicable regulations (whether Federal, State or Foreign); interpret and communicate impact to Senior Regulatory Staff; assist in providing appropriate guidance/strategy to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
    • Obtain and/or create necessary documents for reviews, application packages, marketing materials, digital information, and product life cycle activities.
    • Interface with appropriate regulatory authorities and/or brokers, agents, and/or consultants to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Review and approve compliance documents such as Ingredient Declaration forms, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Technical Data Sheets, and Manufacturer’s Declaration of Formulation (MDF)
  • Coordination of execution of Risk Assessments for products and product labeling with cross-functional group
  • Evaluate product formulations and provide correct hazards/precautionary language for product labels based on consumer product regulations.
  • Evaluation of products for compliance with transportation regulations
  • The input and maintenance of data into WERCS and Smarter Sorting applications
  • Evaluate products for export compliance.
  • Maintain documentation and department files and databases for all completed work.
  • Evaluate and provide guidance on site compliance (warehousing/storage/fire)
  • Support Regulatory Staff in their work.
  • Interact with industry groups and regulatory agencies on common interests.

Education and Experience Profile

  • B. S. or B. A. in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or similar science.
  • Exceptions to this education requirement may be made for candidates possessing:
    • B. A. in a non-science discipline, coupled with an advanced degree (MA, JD, etc.); or
    • B. A. in a non-science discipline, coupled with relevant and material experience in the pesticide or pet products industry, and/or applicable regulatory agencies.
  • 2+ years relative experience in a regulated field or technical discipline.

Required Skills

  • Familiarity with a variety of common regulatory concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Skilled at effectively interfacing with employees at multiple levels within the organization.
  • Ability to effectively perform in dynamic, cross-functional groups.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects successfully.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office systems and applications.
  • Knowledge of SAP preferred.

Work Environment

This position will sit in St. Louis, MO office and is a Hybrid role.  Hybrid role offers work from home flexibility on Mondays and Friday. 10% Travel may be expected.
