The Senior Data Analyst performs data analyses and interprets results using a variety of techniques to support business practices. This position is responsible in creating/ developing reports. Uses a variety of data sources and analysis techniques to support operations, reporting and planning. The Senior Data Analyst provides recommendations and conclusions gained from analyzing data using statistical methods and tools. Researches best practices, develops benchmarks, and provides dashboard metrics to management leadership. Develops a variety of reporting tools for distribution. Provides input into decisions affecting business operations and strategic initiatives.

The Senior Data Analyst performs data analyses and interprets results using a variety of techniques to support business practices. This position is responsible in creating/developing reports. This position works with management to obtain and identify analytical requirements. Uses a variety of data sources and analysis techniques to support operations, reporting and planning. The Senior Data Analyst provides recommendations and conclusions gained from analyzing data using statistical methods and tools. Provides input into decisions affecting business operations and strategic initiatives. The Senior Data Analyst is a subject matter expert that demonstrates leadership and organizational skills in planning, implementing and managing projects and in support of departmental initiatives across Keck Medical Center of USC. The Senior Data Analyst supports the department in designing, planning, implementing, and tracking of short- and long-term improvement initiatives that have a beginning and an end, with specified deliverables. The Senior Analyst collects data from observations, manipulates databases to produce analyses, and creates automated dashboards. She/he supports the creations of presentations for leadership and improvement projects. Responsible to maintain various Access Center Reports by coordinating data and narrative updates. The scope of activities for this role includes developing collaborative customer relationships, implementing lean design while developing business solutions with clinical stakeholders, overseeing and facilitating projects, and analyzing data obtained from numerous information systems, including providing judgment necessary to determine the accuracy and applicability of the information. This Senior incumbent acts as lead in the absence of department management.

Essential Duties:

  • Conducts assessments and collects data to support project selection criteria. Capture, develop, and document data definitions, business rules, and data quality requirements. Create and produce forecasts, reports, ad hoc requests, dashboards, etc. Interpret data, analyze results, and provide insights to determine operational impact, trends, and opportunities. Performs data analyses and interprets results using a variety of techniques to support business practices. Works with management to obtain and identify analytical requirements. Analyzes results, reviews data for anomalies, investigates to identify and determine cause, and corrects data inaccuracies and inconsistencies as necessary. Provides recommendations and conclusions gained from analyzing data.
  • Develop reports and deliverables for management and communicate with all levels of stakeholders. Identify and define both process and data improvements. Ensure compliance with deliverable reporting requirements by performing quality data audits and analysis. Utilizes statistical and quality management principles to report and initiate operational/business practices changes. Develops schedules for producing statistical analyses and graphical representation of data for business analytics. Provides ad hoc reporting and statistical analyses, as requested.
  • Develops, implements, and manages departmental projects. Provides analytical, documentation and facilitation support in such projects. Performs duties including some or all the following: Plans projects by creating detailed work plans with identified timelines/milestones and objectives/targets, aligning with allocated resources and organizational strategy Implements planned projects in consultation with appropriate leadership and identified stakeholders, ensuring all work is properly maintained and kept confidential when applicable Controls project by maintaining alignment with organizational policies/procedures and regulatory compliance standards Evaluates project by ensuring deliverables are on time, within budget, and at the required level of quality by tracking established process and outcome measure to targets
  • Acts as a lead in the absence of departmental management.
  • Responsible for providing guidance, coaching and training to other employees in absence of management.
  • Updates and maintains various hospital reports and/or presentations by coordinating collection of information and data, as well as production of the report.
  • Attends promptly to the administrative details of the position including attendance to Daily Huddles and Staff Meetings, completion of performance appraisals, and other employee-related actions.
  • Performs data collection and/or entry processes. Recommends and/or utilizes methods and procedures for data acquisition, management and quality control, as directed or as needed. Recommends and/or utilizes statistical techniques for data analysis, as directed or as needed. Resolves problems, answers questions and provides information to facilitate process. Uses standard statistical analysis software, as directed. Determines appropriate format for data and results presentation in both web- based and published metrics dashboards. Produces or oversees the production of graphs, tables, charts, etc. Assembles or oversees the production and distribution of reports that effectively present and summarizes data to review by management.
  • Leads the creation of dashboards and other tools to guarantee the sustainability of results. Develops data apps to support key projects and initiatives.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Required Qualifications:

  • Req Bachelor's degree Degree in a related field
  • Req 3 years Three (3) to five (5) years experience as a business data analyst.
  • Req Proficient PC skills.
  • Req Working knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, word processing and statistical software programs.
  • Req Knowledge of business (operational, clinical, and financial) statistics and data analyses techniques.
  • Req Ability to manage and analyze data.
  • Req Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pref Master's degree preferred in or progress (Industrial Engineering, Health Administration, Business Administration)
  • Pref Experience (academic or through internships) in process improvement (Lean, Six Sigma) and project management preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

The annual base salary range for this position is $68,640.00 - $112,370.00. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidates work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
