Job Title Research Aide and Interviewer

The newly established National Science Foundation (NSF) Harnessing the Data Revolution (HDR) Imageomics Institute is seeking a motivated candidate for Research Technician interested in computer science and wildlife biology & conservation to assist in annotating videos of animal behavior and Imageomics machine learning (ML) models. The Research Technician will assist PhD students with Imageomics research with the goal of studying animal behavior using ML and computer vision techniques. The Research Technician will be trained to annotate drone videos of wildlife to record their behavior to serve as training data for ML models. The Research Technician may also be expected to assist in conducting hands-on research and data collection at The Wilds, a safari park in Cumberland, Ohio, as well as assist in improving ML models for the purposes of wildlife detection, classification, and behavior recognition.
Responsibilities - Collaborate with student researchers on video annotation tasks and annotate videos of animals with bounding boxes using CVAT
- Work on machine learning techniques for wildlife detection, classification, and behavior recognition
- Assist in hands-on data collection at The Wilds as needed
The Imageomics Institute is a National Science Foundation (NSF) Harnessing the Data Revolution (HDR) Institute established to create machine learning tools using publicly funded collections of digital image data from national centers, field stations, museums and individual laboratories that will enable scientists to study how function follows form in all areas of biology and expand public understanding of the rules of Life on Earth and how it evolves.
Qualifications Required: High School Graduate or Associate degree
- Ability to watch videos of animals and annotate them
- Ability to work with computer applications
- Ability to complete video annotations and ML models on provided device
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills
Desired - Pursuing or completed a four-year CSE, Biology, or related degree
- Familiarity with Python, PyTorch, machine learning and computer vision
- Familiarity with command-line interface for unix and linux systems
- Interest in Imageomics research (computer vision and biology)
Additional Information This position is part-time, temporary (does not include benefits) through August 18, 2024. The target hiring range for this job profile is $14,57 - $19.71. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
