Artist in Residence - Music Theater

Purpose of Position: The Department of Performing Arts: Music, Theatre, and Dance at Christopher Newport University invites applications for the position of Artist in Residence in Music Theater, at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, effective August 2024. This position is a full-time, non-tenure-track appointment with a nominal teaching load of 4-4. This is a 1-year appointment with the possibility of renewal for a second year.
The primary responsibilities will include teaching applied music theater voice and music theater for students in the musical theatre concentration. Additionally, the individual will have responsibility for the continuation of successful cabaret programs within the concentration. Ability and/or experience in music direction and/or choreography of music theatre productions is highly desirable. Special consideration will be given to candidates who can help facilitate opportunities for students to gain professional experience outside the classroom. Additional classroom teaching experience will also be considered.
We seek a candidate with a terminal Master of Fine Arts in Theatre, a master’s or terminal degree in a related field, and/or significant professional experience in music theatre performance. Preference will be given to those with experience in teaching undergraduates.
